St. Lucia sweats for bronze medal win

LA BORIE, Grenada, November 4,   2018 – The joint defending champs of 2017- St. Lucia was made to work hard for a prideful victory (3-1) over Grenada in the hassle  for third place in the 2018 version of the ECVA championship. St. Lucia dropped the first set but improved on their floor placement and defense at the net to overhaul Grenada in the remaining three games (13-25, 25-15 25 -20 and 25-23).

This time around the St. Lucia distributed the scoring among several players as Augustin Faulkner tallied 13, Joseph Clercent chipped in with 11 and Tevin St. Jean poured in 10 for the bronze medalists. Jervin Noel of Grenada led all scorers in the game with 17 points comprising of 12 spikes and 3 blocks but all in a losing cause.

On the team scoresheet, St. Lucia dominated in spikes- 39-33 and in serves 10 to 8. However Grenada held the edge in in blocks 11 to 7.

Terry Verdant of St. Lucia gave his views on the match. “Clearly this is not what we came for but we will settle for this as opposed to nothing. I must give commendations to the Grenada team for pushing us in order to gain the victory. This augers well for volleyball in the region. It tells me that we now have to work even harder on our game since gone are the days when St. Lucia will win everything.
