Volleyball Association hosts Long-term Developmental Programme in Districts 7 and 8
The St Lucia Volleyball Association in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Department of Sports with the assistance of the National Lotteries Authority is hosting a Volleyball in Primary Schools Program in Districts 7 and 8.
500 estimated kids from 9 west coast primary schools are learning volleyball basic based on FIVB Cool Volley program. National lotteries assisted in part funding this developmental program. The program involves individuals from SLVA trained in the UNICEF safeguarding children in sports and PE teachers.
The objectives of this program are:
- To engage young people as early as possible in high quality volleyball program.
- Extend the reach and impact of the Ministry of Youth and Sports initiative of a Summer Sports Camp.
- Spread the playing of Volleyball to the South and South western reaches of the island.
- To help curb the rise in lifestyle diseases that seems to be affecting a lot of our young people.
- To provide access to regions of the island disadvantaged by the lack of facilities, trained personnel and equipment.
The program is a developmental program over three years which seeks to track the participant’s performance and retention in the sport. SLVA see this as part of its long term athlete’s developmental program.
