ECVA under 20 champions!

Saint Lucia has done it again, this time with the junior teams. St. Lucia battled number of Caribbean island during the ECVA under 20 tournaments. The female team embarked to Antigua on Tuesday August 21st, 2019, under the guidance of veteran Volleyball Coach terry Vernat and assistant coach Kerrisa Thomas.

The first match took place on the august 22, where St. Lucia dominated Bermuda and SABA in a 3-0 victory. They continued to persevere and won Antigua with a 3-2 victory. Avenging an earlier 3-2 at the hands of Antigua and Barbuda in the preliminary round, St Lucia did not allow for any comeback this time around, to win the championship match in fine style, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17).St. Lucia not only came home with the title of under 20 ECVA Champions but walked away with MVP, best outside hitter and best Serve titles as well. Clio Phillips received the MVP and best outside hitter while Hayle Mondesir got best serve.

St Lucia finished the tournament with four wins and a solitary loss, while Antigua and Barbuda had three wins and two losses.

The male under 20 team showed that they were just as capable as the female team and replicated the victory. The male team gave a splendid representation of their talents. St. Kitts was defeated by St. Lucia in a 3-2 loss in the preliminary. St. Lucia battled intensely St. Kitts in the finals and came out victorious. Like their female counterparts the males also won individual awards. Joshua Florent wins ECVA male MVP, outside hitter and best Scorer. Best opposite was captured by non-other than Noah Gasper, while Fabio Lamontagne received best server.

Saint Lucia portrayed that they are full of talent and a force to be recon with. Congratulations to both male and female under 20 team, Our New ECVA champions 2019!

SLVA correspondent caught up with our team headed for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas and here are their thoughts on their selection.

SLVA Correspondent: What are your thoughts concerning your selection to the Youth Commonwealth Games(YCG)?

Tenai Joseph

Club: Le Club

Tenai Joseph: I am proud that my constant hard work and discipline has paid off. The transition from indoor volleyball to beach has been difficult for me, with the change in the court size and the rules regarding beach play. I am excited to have been chosen to represent my country and also the sport. With my go hard mindset and competitive nature, I believe that my partner and myself shall perform at the highest level.

TJ: I would like to encourage young persons to follow their dreams and aspirations no matter how difficult they seem. We can accomplish all things through god who strengthens us.

Levi Leonce

Age:18

Club: Le Club

Levi Leonce: My selection has aided my confidence, as an individual and player. It has made me realize that hard work and consistency pays off. I feel honored to be an ambassador for the sport and I look to represent my sport and country with pride and honor.

LL: Choosing the sport of volleyball has been one of the best decisions I have made. It has provided me with numerous opportunities to progress further in life, building a network of persons in all walks of life. A great socializing tool.

Kyhim Remy

Age: 17

Club: Le Club

Kyhim Remy: My selection to the CYG has made me an even more rounded individual. I am more appreciative of the people around me. My confidence as a young person has increased as well as my focus and ability to think critically. I am honored and filled with joy over my selection.

KR: To young people aspiring to play the sport of volleyball or who are playing stay focused, be discipline, listen to your coaches and more experienced players and most of all “Never Give Up”.

Tiah Arnold

Age: 15

Club: Le Club

Tiah Arnold: Being selected has inspired me to strive towards my full potential. It has made me realize that anything is possible and given me the drive to become the best player that I can be. It shows that anyone with passion and determination can achieve great things. I am honored to be chosen to represent my country.

TA: Volleyball is a great sport. I urge anyone interested in the game to go for it. You may find a love for the sport that you did not know existed. Try it out and doors that you never dreamed of may open for you.

Women Volleyballers Start Continental Champs Campaign Today

Cindy Wilson, Kerin Neptune, Prisca Simon, Laura Tisson-Francis, along with Khrisann Eugene, Nugent Sandy Nyoka, Amika James, Neema Leon, Asher Hunt, Megan Phillips, Yosherbel Emmanuel and Marcia Ross will compete at the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship in Vancouver Langley Event Centre, Canada starting this evening.

While in Canada, the team is under the watchful eyes of Kendell Charlery (Head Coach) and Timothy James (Manager/Assistant Coach).

Saint Lucia is placed in Group B which also includes Cuba, Nicaragua and host Canada.

Matches in the Group start today with Nicaragua playing Cuba from 5:00 p.m. and Canada versus Saint Lucia at 8:00 p.m. Tomorrow, it’s Cuba versus Saint Lucia from 5:30 p.m. and Nicaragua versus Canada at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, Nicaragua come up against Saint Lucia from 5:30 p.m. and Canada play Cuba at 8:00 p.m.

Local Volleyballers Lose To T&T

TRINIDAD and Tobago used strong serving to defeat Saint Lucia 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17 on Tuesday in the opening pool play match of the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

The Trinidadians led Saint Lucia in kills (34-19) and aces (5-2) while the teams tied in blocks (6- 6). Trinidad and Tobago scored on 30 errors by Saint Lucia while committing 21.

Trinidad and Tobago was led by opposite Ryan Stewart, who had 10 points on seven kills, one block and two aces. They also put together several strong serving runs to pull ahead in each set. Middle blocker Marc Honore was a particularly consistent server.

Volleyball: Le Club Defeats Phoenix 758 Club

In results for the female matches played at the Laborie Multi-Purpose Centre on Saturday, Le Club ladies defeated Phoenix 758 Volleyball Club of Laborie 3-2.

Le Club opened the first set with a 25-22 win, but went on to lose sets No. 2 and 3 as Phoenix 758 stormed back to win 26-24 and 25-21.

With the score 2-1 at the break in favour of the home team Phoenix 758, Le Club regrouped going into the fourth set to win 25-18, forcing the match into a fifth set, which they went on to win 15-8.

Local Male Volleyballers Book Spot In Colorado Springs

SAINT Lucia’s men’s team made light work of Dutch Saint Maarten on Sunday night winning by 3-0 to emerge champions of Men’s Group D of the Norceca Zone FIFB World Championships Qualifiers second round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA).

The games were held at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility in front of an appreciative crowd of about 200 fans.

With the win, the Saint Lucia team players have booked their ticket into the next round of competition in Colorado Springs, U.S.A., starting September 26.

World Volleyball Qualifiers: Group D Volleyball Today

THE hard-hitting and thundery spiking will resume on centre court today as the Saint Lucia Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association and NORCECA stage Group D World Qualifiers second round at Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility.

Battling for supremacy will be Anguilla, French Saint Martin, Dutch Saint Maarten and host Saint Lucia. The winner of that group will proceed to the Continental Championship in Colorado Springs, U.S.A. and, if successful, head to either Italy or Bulgaria (cohost) for the World Championship from October 10-30, 2018.

On centre court, Saint Lucia will open their campaign against French Saint Martin from 9:00 a.m. and it’s Dutch Saint Martin versus Anguilla at 11:00 a.m.

Volleyball Qualifiers Off To Good Start

THE 2018 NORCECA World Championships qualification Group E served off yesterday morning at the Beausejour Indoor Facility with wins for Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Dominicans came from one set down to defeat Antigua and Barbuda 3-1. Dominica failed to capitalize on many scoring chances due to a series of unforced errors only to allow Antigua and Barbuda to win the first set 28-26.

At the break going into the second set, the Dominicans regrouped as they changed their strategy, which paid off and they went on to level the match 1-1 with a score of 25-19. Despite winning sets three and four 25-20 and 25-21 and the match, the Dominica team was made to work hard by Antigua and Barbuda.

Volleyball World Championship Qualifier: Saint Lucia starts its Campaign against Saint Martin

The Saint Lucia Volleyball Association (SLVA) is preparing to host two world volleyball qualifiers from 5:00 p.m. at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility.

However, word is that the lighting at that facility has been inadequate and that Saint Lucia Sports Inc. will have everything in place before the tournament starts here next week.

Final preparations are ongoing with the Saint Lucia men’s senior volleyball team as they look toward their opening encounter against Saint Martin in World Championship Qualifier at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility on August 12.

Saint Lucia To Host Zonal World Champs Qualifier

SAINT LUCIA will host the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Zonal World Championship Qualification Tournament scheduled for August 8-14, 2017.

Eight teams — Saint Lucia, French St. Maarten, Dutch Saint Maarten, Anguilla, Saint Kitts, Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Antigua and Barbuda — will be participating as they attempt to qualify for the 2018 World Volleyball Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Saint Lucia Men’s Volleyball Team accepted an invitation to participate in a Friendly Tournament recently as a pre-competition warm-up for both national teams, Saint Lucia and Martinique. The games were of a high level but St. Lucia lost both games.
